GROUND CONDITIONS
Rotary techniques can be employed in almost any ground conditions but are particularly economic in cohesive materials and rocks. Where necessary non cohesive fills, granular or wet soils can be supported using single or double casing techniques together with support fluids if required.
PILE DETAILS
Rotary piling results in an open bore into which concrete and reinforcement can be readily introduced. Where concrete needs to be placed through water or drilling fluid tremmie technique is used bringing uncontaminated concrete to the base of the pile. Full length reinforcement, steel columns, King Posts or permanent casings can be fixed prior to concreting, connections being made in-situ where necessary.
Diameters range from 300mm up to 2100mm with depths up to 50 metres and in cohesive material under reams can be formed. It is normally practical for concrete to be terminated at a low level and this technique therefore lends itself to “top-down” construction or to deep basements formed from ground level.
PLANT EMPLOYED
Simplex have a range of dedicated crane mounted rotary rigs together with additional dual purpose hydraulic machines. Telescopic friction and locking Kelly bars allow high speed augering in cohesive materials or high torque drilling for rocks. A range of tools is available including rock augers and coring barrels.
